Entrusting our dog, Zara, to Akin at ABC Training Kennels has been life changing!!Zara was super reactive to anything and anyone, and when I say super reactive, I’m talking the scary portrayal of Dobermans in the movies (full teeth, full raised fur, and foaming/slobbering at the mouth). People were afraid of her, and I was afraid to take her anywhere. We tried several trainers in our immediate area, and every time, we were asked to leave group classes. We tried private lessons with little to no improvement. Finally, we were referred to Akin, and pretty quickly, he was able to make a great deal of progress with her. However, I was still struggling on my own. Akin was great about helping me through this. He was always patient and kind with both Zara and myself. He ensured I was, as he says, “crystal clear” so that I could be “crystal clear” in my communication with Zara. I needed to grow in my confidence with her so that she did not feel that instinct to constantly protect me. Now, she knows that I don’t need her to protect me 24/7. If I tell her to “leave it”, she knows that I see the trigger, and I have it under control. We can even walk through Cabela’s and Lowe’s or make a quick stop at a drive thru without issues.
